Do you know how many hands have touched the fruit you’re buying at the grocery store? Or where those hands have been? Knowing how to properly wash your fruit so that all the dirt, bacteria, and germs are removed is so important. Most people simply rinse their fruit under water, but that doesn’t actually do much. Here are all three natural ways to wash your fruit:
Baking Soda
Baking soda can help remove pesticides, bacteria and mold spores from fruit. For this cleaning method you will need to mix one teaspoon of baking soda for every 2 cups of water needed to submerge the fruit fully. Then, simply soak your fruit for 15 mins.
Lemon Juice
Lemon juice contains citric acid which has disinfecting and bleaching properties. Squeeze 1/2 a lemon into a bowl of water and add a tablespoon of salt. Soak your fruit for 15 minutes
Vinegar
Vinegar not only disinfects your fruit, but it can also increase its self life. Mix one part vinegar with three parts water and soak for 15 minutes.
Once your fruit is done soaking in one of the above mixtures, rinse them with cold water and dry them with a cloth or paper towel. Store in berry bowls or glass containers, not in the original plastic they came in.
